GREECE
In 2018, by invitation of the UN International Office of Migration and in partnership with the Greek Health Department, Kambia and our partner Global Brigades set off to help fill a void in health care services for refugee populations and begin applying our Holistic Model of health and development programs.
Community Partners and Projects
Consistent with our programmatic methodology, we started our work in 2018 by implementing our Medical Program to build trust and gather insight to into the community of refugees and asylum seekers we hope to serve. In 2020, we established our own clinic in Athens to provide free and consistent care, with a focus on serving children.
In addition, Kambia supports refugee and migrant populations with financial education and economic development programs for their micro-enterprises through our Business Program.
Kambia works with a diverse population in Athens, including native Farsi, Arabic and Urdu speakers as well as families and entrepreneurs from across Africa. We strive to reach the most vulnerable and underserved population through all of our programs.
Accommodations, Logistics, and Food
Our professional and experienced staff will meet you at the Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos (AIA) upon arrival and take you directly to your accommodations. At the accommodations, you will enjoy authentic local cuisine and our staff will orient you to the country and the work you will be doing.
The accommodations are comfortable and offer you access to the great city of Athens while still being private and safe. Kambia provides 24-hour security as well as on-site staff to take care of any needs. We will do everything that we can to make you feel at home, safe and comfortable.
During your visits to project sites, our professional drivers will transport you safely and our coordinators will ensure that you have everything that you need.
Our Staff
Kambia’s team of local staff including medical professionals, drivers, cooks and lodging managers are present throughout each program and ensure that you are always supported and cared for. With more than 20 years of experience, our team will welcome you to Greece and introduce you to our amazing community partners.
In addition to excellent service staff, we employ a full-time team of professional health and economic development professionals that make sure the work that you do is impactful and sustainable. We look forward to meeting you in Greece!
Cultural Learning
In addition to the high-impact development projects you and your team will undertake, we also want to make sure that you are introduced to Greek culture through authentic and traditional cultural activities. Examples include Arabic and Greek lessons, artisan craft workshops and cooking lessons. Participants will also have the chance to boat through the Euripus Strait, see the rugged islands of central Greece and tour the famous city of Athens to view its great history with sites such as the Parthenon. Make sure to talk with our team before you begin your program to get more information about which cultural activities your group will be doing.
Enrichment Activities
(OPTIONAL ADD-ON PACKAGES)
After a full week of service work, your group may want to dive further into Greece to explore its world-famous islands, filled with blue and white architecture, against the backdrop of the Mediterranean. You can spend a weekend lounging peacefully or hopping between a few to experience delicious food, a warm and welcoming culture and the slow-paced island life.
