SUSTAINABLE IMPACT
WHERE WE WORK
PARTNERS

Our recent Public Health Program in Ghana, in partnership with Governors State University, was a truly transformative experience for both our dedicated faculty members and the vibrant communities of Ekumpoano and Suprudo in the Central Region of Ghana.

From June 2-12, 2024, Governors State University focused on empowering residents to take control of their well-being through a multifaceted approach. This included developing essential in-home infrastructure, providing comprehensive community leadership training, and delivering crucial health education.

As part of the Public Health community project, the Kambia group helped to build a “biodigester,” an eco-friendly system that turns human waste into biogas and nutrient-rich fertilizer through anaerobic digestion. Inside this biodigester, microorganisms can break down the waste in an oxygen-free environment that produces  biogas (mainly methane) that can be used for energy or cooking, and digestate, which enriches soil as fertilizer.

In addition to the public health work, Governors State University faculty and students were also able to dive into the local culture and experience the beauty and power of traditional dance and drum performances. They also explored the bustling local markets and gained a deeper appreciation for Ghanaian customs.

To enrich their understanding of the region’s history, Kambia participants also visited the historic Cape Coast Castle, a poignant reminder of the past as well as the Assin Manso Slave Market, a powerful testament to human resilience. The breathtaking beauty of Kakum National Park and the iconic Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum further enriched the program.

Kambia offers Public Health, Nursing and Business programs in Ghana and we are always seeking faculty and students that are passionate about making a global impact.
